Chemicals: As an intermediate in the manufacture of stannous salts ( particularly the oxide, sulphate, octate and 2-ethyl hexotate)
Pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals: As a reducing agent.
Metal extraction: As an reducing agent in the extraction and purification of precious metals.
Metal finishing: As an additive to tinning and soldering fluxes. As a surface senstizer prior to deposting a metal electrode layer in the electroplating  of non-metals. As an ingredient of the “halogen electrolyte” for the continuous in plating of steel strip.
Textile finishing: As an reducing agent in dyeing and printing textiles.
Glass: As a surface senstizer prior to silvering  in the manufacturing of mirrors.
